Suspended sculpture in a four-story stairwell attracts visitors to the stairwell as a free exercise machine. The shape is similar to a strand of DNA, suggesting life. Its form is also like a spring suggesting movement. It is compressed as it leaves the basement and expanded as it reaches the clerestory. It is named after the scientist who first photographed microscopic DNA, upon which Crick and Watson made their discoveries.
